After a few operator problems (like not reading the instructions all the way though) everything works as advertised.And it's red. Of the tea pods included with the coffeemaker, the Zen in Black is my favorite, though I found the five ounce cup to be too strong, the eight ounce is just right. Before I thought to check Amazon for a One-One coffeemaker, I found one elsewhere but did come to Amazon for the pods. I found the hazelnut pods to be very tasty, not too strong or too weak. I'll make a pitch for the One-One itself, I love mine and use it everyday.
The brewed coffee is as good as the coffee served in any high end coffee shop. A great deal.For a real coffee treat Melitta coffee cannot be beat. This is an excellent product. The pods are not available is any retail store in my vicinity, but purchasing them through Amazon.com is easy and less expensive than buying them direct from the company since, if you buy 6 boxes at a time, you don't have to pay shipping.
Unfortunately, it is not easy to get the pods locally. How can you lose. I think the Melitta 1:1 makes great coffee. So I just order enough to have on hand and get free shipping as well.
My favorite is the Brazil, which is light and sweet, but I have a friend who likes a stronger cup and enjoyed the Italian blend. I've been using them for almost a year. The machine is great, but the pods available by the manufacturer taste like rubbing alcohol. (.). I buy in bulk to save on costs and they don't seem to go bad as long as I've kept them in a cool, dry place.
The point is that the coffee made using the pod and one-cup maker tastes much better than from a standard home drip coffee-maker, the unit isn't costly, clean-up's a breeze, and you don't have to put your shoes on to get it. I've had a delicious latte made using a home espresso unit, but those units are expensive and require more handling than this one-cup maker did. It's a real treat to have an easily home-brewed flavorful latte. Although this will never replace one created with the use of an espresso machine, either from a personal unit or from your favorite coffee emporium, it's a tasty and reasonably-priced alternative. OK, so you can't heat the milk in this machine, but using regular milk was fine because the coffee was very hot to start.
